Hapag-Lloyd will offer additional departures from the Mediterranean to the US East Coast with another service from October 2003. Shippers will benefit considerably.
The new "EMX" service (Eastcoast Mediterranean Express) will serve New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Miami on the US East Coast and Malta, Livorno, Genoa, Marseilles/Fos, Valencia and Lisbon in the Mediterranean. Weekly departures on fixed days will be offered. Five 1,600 TEU ships will be deployed.
Five 1,850 TEU vessels are deployed in the restructured "MAS" service (Med America Express), making possible weekly departures on fixed days. The round voyage time has been cut from 42 days to 35 days. Cagliari, Salerno, Genoa, Barcelona and Lisbon are called at in the Mediterranean, while for the USA the service focuses on the South Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, calling at Savannah, Miami and Houston.
Hapag-Lloyd also offers an extensive feeder network covering all relevant transhipment hubs in the Mediterranean. It provides a total of 14 direct services between Europe and the USA, including six between the Mediterranean and the US East Coast.
