In addition to jointly operating services to the South American West Coast and the Caribbean, Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Süd will now also cooperate offering services to the South American East Coast. The shipping lines are also examining possibilities for further joint ventures. The traditional German shipping lines Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Süd have been cooperating closely for decades, Hapag-Lloyd focusing on the global East-West routes and Hamburg-Süd on North-South services. The partners have now decided to expand their collaboration even further. An initial agreement has been concluded for services linking Europe with the South American East Coast. At the beginning of next year Hapag-Lloyd will act as a partner in the two existing full container services of Hamburg-Süd calling at all the main ports on the South American East Coast. The "Brazil and River Plate Service" with weekly departures will serve Southampton, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrügge and Le Havre in Europe and Santos, Sao Francisco, Rio Grande and Buenos Aires in South America. Six containerships each capable of carrying 2,150 standard containers (TEU) will be deployed. The "Brazil Express Service" will offer weekly departures from Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrügge and Le Havre to Santos and Paranagua. The ports of Suape, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro will also be called at every fortnight. The six vessels to be deployed on this service will each have a capacity of 1,675 TEU.
